A familiar face may soon be dropping in to provide reinforcements for the undermanned Seattle Sounders.

This week Swedish media reported that the Rave Green are set to bring midfielder Erik Friberg, who played for the Sounders in 2011, back to Seattle on a transfer from Danish club Esbjerg fB.

That claim was backed up by SounderAtHeart.com, who stated that an announcement could come as soon as Monday. Friberg fits the description of the incoming signing hinted at by SSFC president and GM Garth Lagerwey in an appearance on ExtraTime Radio on Thursday.

Friberg, a versatile midfielder who can play in a central attacking role or out wide, joined the Sounders in December 2010 from Sweden's BK Häcken, then returned a Europe a year later to join Malmö FF. He subsequently moved on to Italian Serie A club Bologna, then made his way to Esbjerg last winter.

A fan favorite known for his easygoing personality and love of tacos, the onetime Swedish international scored one goal and two assists in 26 MLS appearances (23 starts) during his single season in Seattle, and helped the club win the US Open and Cascadia Cups.
