Toronto FC 2, Chicago Fire 2 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

Substitute Alan Gordon scored in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time to complete the Chicago Fire's comeback and earn a 2-2 away draw at Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon.

Bastian Schweinsteiger cut the deficit in half for Chicago (2-3-2) midway through the second half, then served the ball into the box that led to Gordon's equalizer on nearly the final kick of the game.

Toronto (1-4-1) held a 2-0 lead with less than half of the opening 45 minutes played after Sebastian Giovinco set up Jonathan Osorio's opener and Victor Vazquez lofted a well-weighted finish over 'keeper Richard Sanchez.

But less than 72 hours after the heartbreak of losing the Concacaf Champions League final to Chivas of Guadalajara on penalties, the Reds appeared to tire in the second half. It took six saves from Alex Bono, including the denial of Schweinsteiger's penalty late in the first half, to ensure that Toronto earned at least a point.

THE BIG PICTURE: It hasn't looked pretty, but the Fire have now earned points in four of their last five matches to claw slowly back into the Eastern Conference playoff race. Toronto may have the pursuit of continental honors to blame for their poor league form, but they need to sort it soon.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: 
The longtime supersub Gordon proved he's still as great once as he ever was with his scrappy equalizer. It was the 36-year-old's 56th career MLS goal across 15 seasons.

MAN OF THE MATCH: It wasn't Schweinsteiger's sharpest performance, but it was one of his most tireless as he appeared to pursue every possible way to get involved in the play and will his team back from two goals down.
