Andrew Tarbell couldn’t record a victory in the first start of his MLS career, but he did manage a small consolation by winning MLS Save of the Week for Week 23.

The second-year San Jose goalkeeper won Save of the Week for his fingertip stop on Houston forward Romell Quioto in the 20th minute of the Earthquakes’ 3-0 loss at the Dynamo on Saturday. Unfortunately for San Jose, he couldn’t keep out Alberth Elis’ effort one minute later and was beaten twice in the game’s dying minutes by Vicente Sanchez and Mauro Manotas.

Tarbell’s save took home 38 percent of the Save of the Week vote. He comfortably beat the second-place finisher, Orlando goalkeeper Joe Bendik, who registered 23 percent of the tally. NYCFC’s Sean Johnson (16 percent) and Portland’s Jake Gleeson (15 percent) and Jeff Attinella (7 percent) rounded out the voting.

We’ll see if Tarbell gets his second straight start on Saturday when the Quakes host the Philadelphia Union at Avaya Stadium (10:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE).
