San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Dwayne De Rosario named Maggiano's Player of the Month for September

San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Dwayne De Rosario has been named the Earthquakes Maggiano's Player of the Month for the month of September the team announced Tuesday at Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant in Santana Row in San Jose. Earthquakes forward Ronald Cerritos picked up the team's Goal of the Month award for his September 3 goal against FC Dallas.


De Rosario, 27, continued his strong push for the MLS MVP award with another extraordinary month in September. The Canadian international led the team to a 4-0-1 record, starting all five games and scoring two goals and registering three assists to add to his league-leading assist total. De Rosario helped the Quakes clinch the best record in the Western Conference and secure home field advantage throughout the Western Conference Playoffs. He also became the first member of the team to score two goals in a game in 2005 when he put in both goals in the Quakes 2-0 win over Chicago on September 21, helping him earn MLS Player Of The Week honors.


Cerritos scored the team's Goal of the Month on September 3 in a 2-0 win over FC Dallas. After a Dallas defender headed a clearance up the left side, Mark Chung gathered the ball and fired a perfect cross to an open Cerritos near the far post about eight yards in front of the goal. Cerritos jumped and powerfully headed the ball back into the left corner for the 1-0 advantage on a picture-perfect header.


The Earthquakes finish their home slate with a match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. PT at Spartan Stadium. The game will air live on radio on 1590 AM KLIV (English) and 1370 AM KZSF (Spanish).
