The New England Revolution have waived defender Emmanuel Osei, the club announced on Monday.
The 28-year-old Ghanaian center back made 44 appearances, including 41 starts, for the club during two seasons.
A speedy, intense player, Osei often partnered with Darrius Barnes in the center of the Revs' defense. The former Hearts of Oak and Livorno player was known for his hard tackling and battling spirit; however, he also had a tendency to foul rashly at times and never seemed to fit into the locker room.
The move to waive Osei comes just days after the Revolution drafted University of California centerback A.J. Soares with the No. 6 pick overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
