Report: Inter Miami coach choice has not changed, will be announced by Jan. 1

David Beckham, Jorge Mas at Fort Lauderdale Stadium construction update

The search for the first head coach in Inter Miami CF's history has rolled on longer than expected, but the person identified to lead the expansion side in their first MLS season has not changed and will be unveiled by year's end, reports MLSsoccer.com's Jillian Sakovits.

Miami owner Jorge Mas told Sakovits during the Expansion Draft on Nov. 19 that the club had made their selection for the hire, and that the much-anticipated announcement would be made in the near future.

A month later that still hasn't come to pass, but Miami maintain that the same person is still in the process of being finalized and should soon be revealed. Inter have been linked to a range of candidates, from Marcelo Gallardo to Patrick Vieira and beyond.

It's just one of several irons in the fire for the fledgling club, whose first-team roster still has spots to fill. The club recently announced that their temporary home stadium, currently under construction on the site of the former Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, will be ready for the start of the 2020 season. Miami will take the field for their inaugural match with a visit to LAFC on March 1, with their first home game taking place on March 14 against owner David Beckham's former club LA Galaxy.
