Report: Galaxy complete signing of Netherlands World Cup veteran Nigel de Jong

Nigel de Jong in World Cup action for the Netherlands

When it came to completing a planned three-international addition to the LA Galaxy roster, it seems "hopeful" was the right read for club president Chris Klein, whom – according to the Los Angeles Times – completed the long-rumored signing of Netherlands international Nigel de Jong.

De Jong, 31, would join the club from AC Milan, where the midfielder has played since 2012, following a 3 1/2-year stint at Manchester City. Though he's made only five appearances for Milan this season, de Jong has more than 80 caps with the Netherlands, including runs during the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. A defensive midfielder, his acquisition would help to offset the Galaxy's sale of Juninho to Club Tijuana.

The anticipated move is intended to complement the recent signings of English left back Ashley Cole and Belgian defender Jelle van Damme.
