Red Bulls announce Luis Robles will miss Atlanta trip, ending ironman run

The longest ironman streak in MLS history is coming to an end this weekend.

The New York Red Bulls confirmed on Saturday morning that goalkeeper Luis Robles would miss the team's away game in Atlanta on Sunday (7 pm ET | FS1 - Full TV & streaming info) with a knee injury, ending his league-record run of 183 consecutive games started.'s Sam Stejskal reported on Friday evening that Robles was in danger of missing the game.

Following the announcement, Luis Robles sent this message to Red Bulls fans:

Sunday's game will be the first time Robles has missed an MLS regular season start for the Red Bulls since his first appearance for the club in September 2012. His streak spanned 183 regular-season games, 16,740 minutes, and came with 86 wins and 52 shutouts.

Robles eclipsed the previous ironman marks two years ago when he broke Kevin Hartman's all-time record of 112 straight complete games on April 16, 2016 before setting the new league record for consecutive starts seven games later. He would go on to surpass the mark for consecutive games played, 142, in March 2017.

Ryan Meara is the likely candidate to replace Robles in goal at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, though Robles is considered week-to-week.
