SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR
On the game:
"Disappointed, that is the word for today's game. I wasn't happy with the way we started or the way we finished. There were some good stretches in between, but not enough. We needed to preserve the lead at the end and not look for more goals."
On the play of Brad Davis:
"Brad has been a good addition to the team. He uses the ball very intelligently and he is excellent on set pieces. He did well today."
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER PAT ONSTAD
On the end of the game:
"We need to maintain our shape. Definitely in the last 10 minutes or so, one team would attack with three or four and then the other team would turn around and attack. I think Chivas took their chances by leaving more players up front, and it paid off for them."
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER BRAD DAVIS
On set pieces:
"We work on positions and guys crashing on free kicks. My job is to put the ball in position and luckily the guys were crashing well today and we got some goals off free kicks."
On the Quakes' comeback:
"We go down 2-1 and then end up making a comeback like that, at home, and you feel like you have the game wrapped up. We spoke about game management and we have to be better in the last 10 minutes possessing the ball. The end of the game was unacceptable."
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER TROY DAYAK
On his goal:
"I just felt like I needed to get some separation. I had been making good runs in the box, but I wasn't very successful getting my head on them earlier. On that play I decided to wrap around and go far post, and got a little separation from the guy and tried to get over the goalkeeper's head, hoping that somebody could get a tap in. It just so happened that the tap happened inside the goal and it went in."
On Chivas USA's late equalizer:
"We shouldn't be inside the 18 like we were on some of those set pieces. I think our line was too deep. I take responsibility on that. I need to get the guys out of the back from being on top of Pat [Onstad]. We were too deep, and then all the ball has to do is just skim on somebody's head and there is nothing you can really do about it."
CHIVAS USA HEAD COACH THOMAS RONGEN
On whether the game resembled an old-fashioned shootout:
"Yeah, it did: good goals, bad goals, good football, some ugly football. And great atmosphere, first and foremost. For us to walk out there, seeing so much red and white, and at 3-2, that fan base cheering us to get back to 3-3, was something special. A lot of firsts today: first goal, first point, first road trip. It's nice to see that we're going to see this [fan support] maybe more often on the road. But are there some things that we need to work on? [Laughs.] Absolutely."
On the back-and-forth course of the match:
"A pretty good game for our fans. At 2-1 you think maybe you can close the door and walk away with three points. Before you know it, you're 3-2. Then getting back at 3-3, you say, 'we'll take the point.' Let's be real honest, we probably didn't deserve to win this one. And in the end, we didn't deserve to lose it, either. And again we left it all on the field. We said we would try to get better each and every week and we stepped it up today, especially on the offensive end. There's still some work left on the defensive end."
On his players' never-say-die attitude:
"I can't say enough about the attitude of the guys. They never gave up, and that's to me is so important. It's important to our fans as well, I think people recognize that."
CHIVAS USA GOALKEEPER BRAD GUZAN
On whether he's satisfied with a point from the game:
"Definitely. It's always great when you're on the road. The atmosphere here was great. Great fan support, it really kept us going."
On whether the game was another baptism by fire:
"That's my job. When I'm called upon I have to produce. Just like the guys in front of me, they're busting their butts for 90 minutes and they expect me to do my job. And I did it early, and then in the second half they get two goals."
On San Jose's first goal, a free kick by Brad Davis:
"I didn't see it until it was right in front of me. I didn't see it come over the wall; I didn't see it travel. We're going to have to look at the video on that one."
On whether the team needs to work on its defending on set pieces:
"As a whole I think we need to get better on them, and me individually, I need to control the box and take command and that will come about with more experience."
