NEW YORK (Saturday, October 4, 2025) – The Philadelphia Union have officially claimed the 2025 Supporters’ Shield, awarded by the supporters to the MLS team with the best overall record each season. Philadelphia is only the second expansion club in MLS history to win multiple Supporters’ Shields (2020), joining LAFC. Since the start of the decade, no team has accumulated more points in MLS regular season action than the Union (326).

With the accolade, the Union will enjoy home-field advantage throughout the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs and earn a berth in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup, marking the fourth time in six seasons that the club will compete in the competition. Philadelphia clinched the Supporters’ Shield tonight by defeating New York City FC, 1-0, at Subaru Park thanks to Mikael Uhre’s deflected goal in the 40th minute (Watch Here).

Philadelphia will host Game 1 of the Round One Best-of-3 Series when they face the winner of the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Wild Card match between the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds. Philadelphia will host Games 1 and 3 (if necessary) at Subaru Park, while their opponent will host Game 2. The full Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs schedule will be announced at a later date.

This marks the second time the Union have won the Supporters’ Shield after previously taking home the trophy in 2020. Philadelphia becomes the seventh team in MLS history to win multiple Supporters’ Shields, and just the second expansion side to do so (LAFC, two). Since MLS expanded the regular season to 34 games in 2011, Philadelphia is only the fourth team to win the Supporters’ Shield after missing the playoffs in the previous season, joining Inter Miami CF in 2024, LAFC in 2022, and the San Jose Earthquakes in 2012.

The Union were led by head coach Bradley Carnell, who in his first season with the club, helped the Union to a 20-7-6 record and a plus-24 goal differential. Carnell has a track record of success in his debut seasons coaching for a club after leading St. Louis CITY SC to a 17-12-5 record (56 points) and top seed in the Western Conference in 2023. Carnell is just the third coach in MLS history to lead multiple clubs to at least 55 points in his debut season, joining Bob Bradley (2018 and 1998) and Thomas Rongen (1999 and 1996).

Throughout the course of the season, Philadelphia was one of the best in MLS at holding leads and acquiring points at home. When scoring the first goal of the match, Philadelphia was unbeaten, boasting a 16-0-4 record with the 16 wins being the second most in the league. At Subaru Park, the Union have been terrific as they own the most points at home in the regular season this year (40 points, 12-1-4 record). That record has come during an MLS-best 15-game unbeaten run at home this season, which is currently active and began on March 22.

Philadelphia’s goal scoring in 2025 has been balanced, with 18 different players finding the back of the net in the regular season, which is tied for the fifth most different goal scorers in a single season in league history. 2025 MLS All-Star Tai Baribo has led the line with 16 goals on just 48 shots for an MLS-best 33.33% scoring percentage. Behind Baribo, first-year player Bruno Damiani has scored seven times in just 1,949 minutes while Mikael Uhre (six goals) and Indiana Vassilev (five goals) have also both played influential roles in attack.

Defensively, the Union have been the best team in MLS, allowing a league-best 33 goals with the club conceding multiple goals in a regular season match only one time since May 24. The stalwarts in defense have been 2025 MLS All-Stars Jakob Glesnes (2,536 minutes) and Kai Wagner (2,679 minutes), who lead the team in regular-season minutes played. Wagner has also contributed 11 assists going forward, which is the second most by a defender in MLS this season. The midfield duo of Jovan Lukić and Danley Jean Jacques have been two of the key figures in achieving Bradley Carnell’s playing style with both completing their first full season of MLS action and ranking first and second, respectively, in pass completion percentage.

A consistent theme in the season has also been Philadelphia’s Homegrown players making an impact in their Supporters’ Shield run. The Union have had more than 7,900 minutes played by Homegrowns in 2025 with top contributors including Quinn Sullivan (11 goal contributions), Nathan Harriel (2,020 minutes), Frankie Westfield (1,712 minutes), and goalkeeper Andrew Rick (six shutouts in 13 starts). With three-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake sidelined for part of the season, the 19-year-old Rick went 7-2-4 in starts, conceding one goal or fewer in nine of his starts. Despite injuries in 2025, Blake currently owns the best goals against average (0.78) and winning percentage (73.68%) among qualifying goalkeepers in 2025.

The Union will complete their 2025 regular season on Decision Day when they travel to face Charlotte FC on Saturday, October 18 (6 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).
