New York Red Bulls' Dax McCarty to miss 4-6 weeks with tibia fracture

New York Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty announced that he’ll miss four to six weeks after suffering a small tibial plateau fracture in New York’s 2-2 draw at the Chicago Fire on Sunday night.

McCarty was injured in the 37th minute of Sunday’s match, when Fire midfielder Khlay Thiam caught him with a tackle to the right leg. Thiam was shown a yellow card for the foul.

McCarty announced his prognosis on Twitter on Monday night, saying he was “bummed about the news but also incredibly thankful it wasn’t worse.”

Sean Davis replaced McCarty on Sunday and is the leading candidate to slot into the starting lineup until the NYRB captain returns from injury.

The Red Bulls return to action Wednesday, when they take on Guatemala’s Antigua GFC in their CONCACAF Champions League opener at Red Bull Arena (8 pm ET; UDN). They resume MLS play Sunday, when they head west to meet the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center (9:30 pm ET; FS1 in the US, MLS LIVE in Canada).
