Montreal Impact's Stade Saputo to play host to Champions' Trophy, annual kick-off to French season

The annual curtain raiser for the French club season, the Champions' Trophy, will be held in Montreal next year, France's Ligue de Football Professionel (LFP) announced Thursday.


The match, between the Ligue 1 champion and French Cup winner, will be held Aug. 2, 2015 at Montreal Impact's Stade Saputo.


Created in 1995, the Champions' Trophy has been played internationally since 2009, when it was also held in Montreal. It was held in Africa in 2010, ’11 and ’13, New York in 2012 and Beijing this year.
