Former Dundee defensive midfielder Neil Barrett believes he is close to signing a two-year deal with the MetroStars, according to a report in the Glasgow Daily Record.
However, said Metros coach Bob Bradley said after practice Friday, not so fast.
"It's up in the air," he said. "It's probably closer to not happening than to happening."
That's not to say Bradley doesn't want the 24-year-old former Chelsea and Portsmouth player who was cut by Dundee as a cost-cutting effort by the club, which was relegated from the Scottish Premier League.
Bradley was impressed with Barrett, who had a trial with the MetroStars last month.
"He'd be a nice guy to have, (he has) a good attitude, works hard," Bradley said. "He's probably a lot like Mark (Lisi) and Mike (Bradley), just somewhere between their ages so he would be a good addition to that group."
Barrett, who could be signed as a transitional international when the MLS transfer window opens Aug. 15, spoke in glowing terms of the MetroStars, the club's facilities and the level of play in MLS.
"I went to America for a trial and they have made me an offer, so hopefully my agent can get everything sorted out within the next few days," Barrett told the Daily Record.
"The facilities are top class and the stadium is amazing so it would be a dream move.
"Their setup is like night and day compared to Dundee, where you trained either on a public park or in a sports hall," he was quoted as saying.
