LA Galaxy Midfielder Marco Reus Named MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob Ultra for Matchday 14 

NEW YORK (Monday, May 19, 2025) – LA Galaxy midfielder Marco Reus was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob Ultra for Matchday 14 of the 2025 MLS season.

Reus netted both goals for the Galaxy in a 2-2 draw against crosstown rival LAFC, including an impressive late free-kick equalizer to salvage a point for his club (Watch MLS Wrap-Up Discuss Reus’ Performance Here). The German midfielder has been on a hot streak as of late, adding three goals and three assists in his last six matches after missing five games due to injury. Sunday marked Reus’ fourth game with multiple goal contributions since joining the Galaxy last August and he previously added two assists in his El Tráfico debut last September.

The Galaxy got off to a fast start at Dignity Health Sports Park, going up 1-0 on LAFC in the sixth minute of action. Sprung free on the right wing, forward Gabriel Pec drove into the box and ripped a shot on goal. While LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made the initial save, an onrushing Reus was there to hammer home the deflection from close range (Watch Here). The visitors rallied to take a 2-1 lead into the late stages of the game, but Reus played hero with his second in the 87th. Set up for a free kick at the top of the arc, the former German international rocketed a shot over LAFC’s wall and to the right post for the late equalizer (Watch Here).

It’s the first Player of the Matchday honor for Reus since he joined the Galaxy midway through last season. Pec was the club's lone weekly winner during its 2024 MLS Cup presented by Audi championship campaign, taking home the honors for Matchday 34 after a goal and two assists in a victory against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

This weekend’s draw was an important one for the Galaxy, earning their first result since a 1-1 draw with the Houston Dynamo on April 12. Next up, LA travels to take on another SoCal rival in upstart San Diego FC on Saturday, May 24 (4:45 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV) and finishes off its gauntlet of Californian clashes when it hosts the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, May 28 (10 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV / FS1 / FOX Deportes).

The MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob Ultra is selected each matchday of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while an Instagram fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio, and online media.
