Gutierrez undergoes successful knee surgery

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Wizards midfielder and team captain Diego Gutierrez underwent successful surgery on his left knee Friday morning at Heartland Spine & Specialty Hospital in Overland Park. Wizards team physician Dr. Scott Luallin removed a bone spur on the lateral aspect of his left patella and also repaired a slight tear in his lateral meniscus.

Gutierrez suffered the knee injury in a collision with D.C. United defender Clyde Simms in last weekend's rematch of the 2004 MLS Cup Final. Initial concerns were that Gutierrez may have suffered a slight fracture of his patella, but an MRI revealed a bone spur instead. He is expected to miss four weeks.
