FC Dallas 2, Montreal Impact 0 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

FC Dallas extended their league winning streak to four games, as they defeated the Montreal Impact 2-0 at Toyota Stadium on Saturday.

While the win was fairly comfortable, with Dallas going ahead two goals in the first 20 minutes, they were wasteful in chances beyond that and kept the door open a crack for the visiting Impact. Matteo Mancosu had a shot slam off the post just before halftime, but the Impact did not have the killer instinct in front of goal to make Dallas pay for their sometimes sloppy play after taking the lead.

Dallas took the lead just five minutes in, but under strange circumstances. Mauro Diaz's indirect free kick sailed into the box, but after the ball went in the net, the goal was initially waved off due to FC Dallas players being offside. However, following Video Review, it was revealed that the two players who actually touched the ball in the box were Impact players, thus rendering the offside call moot and FCD going ahead on an own goal.

Minutes later, Maxi Urruti drew a penalty on Rudy Camacho in Montreal's box, and Diaz buried the spot kick to the bottom corner to double Dallas' lead.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: On paper, this looked like a likely Dallas win, and so it turned out to be. FCD will have some items to work on in training but they are cruising at the moment. After grabbing a home win last week, Montreal pick up another loss, but their grit in trying to stay in the game means there is still fight in the team.

  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH
: You could watch thousands of games and not see a play as fluky as the own goal.

  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Diaz set up the own goal and scored the second to give Dallas some breathing room. The magical unicorn is playing pretty well these days.
