Didier Drogba injury to be evaluated Wednesday after return from London

MONTREAL – Star forward Didier Drogba was absent from Montreal Impact practice Tuesday, though there was nothing unexpected about it.

The Ivorian striker was scheduled to return from London, Montreal coach Mauro Biello said, and a decision will be made Wednesday about his availability to play against the LA Galaxy on Saturday (8 pm ET, watch on MLS LIVE).

Drogba went to London this past weekend to visit his family and reportedly to attend to matters involving his charitable foundation after a hip injury left him unavailable for the Impact's 2-1 loss at Orlando City SC on Saturday. While he was out there he also had treatment for his injury, which he sustained during the second half of Montreal's 1-1 tie against the Philadelphia Union on May 14.

"We got the results of the MRI and it's a mild strain of the hip flexor," Biello said. "He did some work in London and we'll see [Wednesday] how he is, how he reacts, and then we'll make a decision on if he'll play or not."

Drogba left in the 70th minute against Philadelphia after scoring for a third straight game three minutes in. He has four goals in seven games this season, and 15 goals in 18 games since joining Montreal last season.

In other injury news, defender Victor Cabrera did not practice Tuesday.

"He's got a little bit of swelling in his calf," Biello said. "It's not a tear, but it could be a deep contusion that's been bothering him. So hopefully in the next couple of days with treatment he could be available for me."

Biello said defender Donny Toia is about two weeks away from returning from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of the lineup since April 16.
