With D.C. United about to embark on a busy stretch of games, they moved quickly to bring in attacking reinforcements.

The club announced on Thursday that they have acquired forward David Estrada in a trade from the Seattle Sounders in exchange for a 2017 third-round SuperDraft pick.

“David's versatily to play wide midfield and up front makes him a welcome addition to our squad,” D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said in a statement. “He is a smart soccer player who finds great spots on the field, and we are very pleased to have him join the United family.”

A first-round pick of the Sounders in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, Estrada scored five goals in 41 league appearances for Seattle, including a hat trick in the 2012 season opener against Toronto FC. This season, the 26-year-old went on loan to the Charlotte Eagles of the USL PRO, scoring a goal and an assist in three appearances.

D.C. currently sit in second place in the Eastern Conference, and will begin their CONCACAF Champions League campaign on Aug. 20 with a group stage game against Jamaican club Waterhouse FC. They also announced on Thursday the release of forward Christiano Francois.
