Chicago Fire FC have acquired goalkeeper Connor Sparrow on a one-year contract with club options through 2022, the club announced Monday.

Sparrow, 25, was originally a 2016 MLS SuperDraft selection by Real Salt Lake, though never made an MLS appearance. He registered 40 appearances with Real Monarchs SLC and Nashville SC in USL Championship play.

“We’re pleased to welcome Connor to the Club,” Fire head coach Raphael Wicky said in a club statement. “He is a talented player who will provide depth and competition at the goalkeeper position.”

Sparrow ostensibly slots in as the club's backup, behind last season's No. 1 Kenneth Kronholm. Chicago also have 15-year-old Gabriel Slonina on their roster after he signed a Homegrown contract with the club.

The move gives Chicago 19 players, following recent arrivals of Homegrown defender Mauricio Pineda and Designated Player forward Robert Beric
