More than capable with the ball at his feet, Pineda is a smooth player that makes good decisions in a timely fashion and helped anchor a possession-oriented side in college. He’s easily been one of college soccer’s best players that past few seasons, looking a cut above many of his peers when he’s playing up to his talent level. Pineda can play as either a center back or defensive midfielder.
INTERNATIONAL: Pineda earned call ups to the U-18 and U-19 U.S. Men’s National Teams.
COLLEGE: Pineda joins the Fire after spending the past four years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Pineda, who was a team captain for the Tar Heels, appeared in every match during his four years with UNC. In 79 appearances (74 starts), he notched 17 goals and eight assists. In his senior season in 2019, Pineda led the team in shots (52), shots on goal (23) and game-winning goals (three), while also ranking second on the team in goals scored (five). Additionally, Pineda was named to an All-ACC team each season during his four years with UNC, including first-team honors in 2018 and 2019. He was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-American second team in 2018.
