Chicago Fire defender Christian Dean announces retirement

Christian Dean

Two days after fellow defender Brandon Vincent surprisingly announced his retirement from professional soccer, the Chicago Fire tweeted on Thursday that Christian Dean has also opted to hang up his boots.

The 25-year-old played sparingly for Chicago since arriving from the Vancouver Whitecaps in a trade on August 9, 2017. The left-footed center back started four of the five matches he appeared in over the course of two injury-plagued seasons with the Fire.

“It’s unfortunate that Christian suffered so many injuries that kept him from realizing his potential,” Chicago Fire president and general manager Nelson Rodriguez said in a statement. “He is a good man and we wish him success and happiness in his next endeavors.”

On Instagram, Dean thanked friends and family for their support over the course of a five-year professional career.
