For years, Canadian fans complained that the men’s national team didn’t play enough friendlies against quality opposition. This year, they’ve got nothing to complain about – except, that is, the on-field results.
It appears Canada will play a second game during the upcoming FIFA international window, meeting Slovenia in Celje on Nov. 19, according to the websites of FIFA and the Slovenian FA. Canada are already scheduled to face the Czech Republic in Olomouc on Nov. 15.
The Canadian Soccer Association did not confirm another November friendly when contacted by MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday, but a spokesman did say the federation "should have something to announce in the coming days." Should the match be made official, it would be Canada’s 10th international friendly of the year (in addition to three games at the CONCACAF Gold Cup).
But Benito Floro’s side is still searching for its first win, with three draws and eight losses to show so far in 2013. The Canadians have scored only one goal in those 11 games, and have gone the last eight contests without finding the back of the net. Canada’s last game was a 3-0 defeat in a friendly against Australia on Oct. 15.
Slovenia, meanwhile, will be looking to pick up the pieces after being narrowly eliminated from World Cup qualifying with a 1-0 loss to Switzerland on Oct. 15. They are currently No. 30 in the most recent FIFA rankings, while Canada’s recent slide has seen them plummet to an all-time low of No. 111.
