Arsenal climb to top of PL with win

With a win on Saturday and a draw by Manchester United, Arsenal regain the lead of the Barclays Premier League.

Emmanuel Adebayor struck twice to help Arsenal claim a 3-1 win over Manchester City and temporarily climb back to the top of the Barclays Premier League.

The Togo striker opened the scoring for Arsene Wenger's side in the ninth minute at Eastlands in the day's early kick-off with a close-range finish after good work down the right by Bacary Sagna.

Adebayor had a hand in Arsenal's second in the 26th minute when he headed Gael Clichy's cross back across goal for Eduardo da Silva, who produced a superb finish on the turn.

Sven-Goran Eriksson's side pulled one back through Gelson Fernandes two minutes later but Adebayor hit his 21st goal of the season in the 88th minute to seal the points for the Gunners.

Tottenham could do their north London rivals a favour after Dimitar Berbatov gave Spurs a 1-0 half-time lead over Manchester United at White Hart Lane.

Juande Ramos' side opened the scoring in the 21st minute after Robbie Keane played Jermaine Jenas through and his surging run was halted in the penalty area by Owen Hargreaves.

United players thought Jenas had controlled the ball with his hand, but Lennon took the ball into the box and Berbatov tapped in after Edwin van der Sar had parried the cross.

A 33rd-minute strike from Kevin Nolan gave Bolton a 1-0 lead over Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

Striker Kevin Davies headed the ball down into the path of Nolan and the midfielder smashed the ball past goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann into the bottom-right corner of the net.

The visitors had earlier been awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute after Marek Matejovsky fouled Gretar Steinsson in the penalty area.

Matthew Taylor took the resulting spot-kick but Hahnemann guessed correctly and parried the ball to safety.

Wigan have a 1-0 advantage over West Ham at the JJB Stadium after Kevin Kilbane headed home a Ryan Taylor free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp handed new signing Jermain Defoe his debut against Chelsea at Fratton Park but he was unable to get on the scoresheet with the match goalless at the break.

Birmingham's clash with Derby was 0-0 although Blues striker Gary O'Connor had the ball in the net five minutes before the interval but the referee ruled it out for offside.

Blackburn's match with Everton at Ewood Park also remained goalless.
