US national team prospect Cody Cropper was hospitalized Monday after a nasty collision during a match with Southampton’s U-21 side against Fulham.

Less than two minutes into the match at Motspur Park, Cropper challenged Dean O’Halloran and took a heavy blow to the head, according to a report in the Daily Echo. The game was stopped for almost 10 minutes as the 21-year-old Minnesota native received treatment on the pitch.

Cropper was quickly taken to the hospital for X-rays. Saints officials visited him after the match, a 2-1 Southampton win, but no further details have been released.

Cropper received his first senior-team call-up in August and was part of the roster for an Aug. 14 friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina. He also participated in the US team's World Cup preliminary camp last summer as unrostered player.

He signed a new one-year deal with Southampton in July.

Several of Cropper’s teammates posted messages to Twitter wishing him a speedy recovery.
