TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

The LA Galaxy have signed academy product defender Marcus Ferkranus to a first-team contract, the club announced Friday.

Ferkranus (pictured above, left) made his professional debut for the club's USL Championship affiliate LA Galaxy II in 2020, appearing in five games and making two starts. The 17-year-old has been with the Galaxy academy since 2017, representing the U-15, U-16/17 and U-18/19 sides, as well as getting named to various rosters on the US youth circuit.

“Marcus is a talented prospect who we have seen progress as a player during his time with our academy and with LA Galaxy II,” general manager Dennis te Kloese said in Friday's release. “It is vital that we continue to invest in our youth players and prioritize their growth professionally. We are excited that Marcus will remain with our club as he continues to develop.”

The signing continues a busy stretch of the offseason for the Galaxy and recently hired new head coach Greg Vanney.

The club also signed academy products Adam Saldaña and Jalen Neal to the first team this week, following the signing of veteran left back and former Portland Timbers stalwart Jorge Villafaña. In recent weeks the Galaxy have also signed former West Brom goalkeeper Jonathan Bond and given goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann a new contract.
