Villafaña won the first-ever Sueño MLS contest in 2007 and made his professional debut with Chivas USA on September 9, 2007. Villafaña won the 2015 MLS Cup with the Portland Timbers and made his US Men's National Team debut in a 0-0 friendly with Serbia on January 29, 2017. The left back is in his second stint with the Timbers after winning a Liga MX title with Santos Laguna.
INTERNATIONAL: Villafaña has earned 21 caps for the US national team, including six appearances (6 starts) during qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Additionally, since making his senior team debut for the United States on July 26, 2017, Villafaña helped the team win the Concacaf Gold Cup trophy in 2017, making four appearances (4 starts) in the tournament.
OUTSIDE MLS: Villafaña rejoins the club after spending three Liga MX campaigns (2015-18) with Santos Laguna. During that stretch, Villafaña posted 60 league appearances (57 starts), while helping the club win its sixth Liga MX title this past season.
