New England Revolution, Alexander Buttner mutually agree to part ways

The New England Revolution and defender Alexander Buttner have mutually agreed to part ways, the club announced Wednesday.

Buttner, 31, made 17 appearances in his lone season with the Revs, including 15 starts. The left back had three assists.

He came to New England after 12 seasons across top flights in Holland, England, Russia and Belgium. Buttner had accrued over 275 appearances with 20 goals and 37 assists across all competitions with Vitesse, Manchester United, Dynamo Moscow and Anderlecht.

The Revs announced the acquisition of left back Christian Mafla earlier this winter. DeJuan Jones has been a regular at the position as well, while veteran fullback A.J. DeLaGarza was also signed.
