HOW ACQUIRED: Traded from LA Galaxy on January 13, 2017. Re-signed on Jan. 9, 2018.
One of the most versatile defenders in MLS, DeLaGarza played a pivotal role in the LA Galaxy's success since 2011. He has shown that he can capably play every position on the backline, and was part of a unit that conceded an MLS-low 35 goals in 2014. He has been named the Galaxy's Defender of the Year two times (2012, 2014) and played an integral role in their three most recent MLS Cup wins (2011, 2012, 2014) as well as their run to MLS Cup in 2009 as a rookie. He should continue to be a leader for the Dynamo in 2018 after returning from a torn ACL suffered on Oct. 22, 2017.
INTERNATIONAL: DeLaGarza originally represented the United States on the international level and collected the first two caps of his international career in January 2012. However, those appearances did not cap-tie him, and he later switched international allegiance to the country of his ancestry, Guam. He has since been a mainstay for the tiny island nation in their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
COLLEGE: A two-time National Champion at the University of Maryland, DeLaGarza appeared in 88 games during his college career, making 81 starts and recording two assists. He helped the Terrapins reach the NCAA Tournament in all four of his years in College Park, while also claiming the ACC Championship in 2008.
NOTES: DeLaGarza was named the 2014 MLS Humanitarian of the year for his work with the #LucaKnowsHeart campagaign, which he started after he and his wife lost their newborn son to complications from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a congenital heart defect.
