Seattle celebrates Sounders' trip to MLS Cup final with government, community activations

MLS Cup - Space Needle Rave Green

The Seattle Sounders will once again compete for MLS Cup on Saturday, heading to Ohio to face the Columbus Crew (8:30 pm ET | TV & streaming).

Though it is fairly familiar territory for the Sounders at this point, an MLS Cup final during a pandemic means the Sounders faithful will not be in the stadium to cheer their side on. The cities of Seattle and Tukwila, though, are finding ways to celebrate the latest accomplishment and cheer them on as they aim to lift their third MLS Cup in five years.

Seattle City Hall will fly a Sounders flag the day before MLS Cup and the day of, as will the King County Administration Building. In Tukwila, where the Sounders' training facility is based, mayor Allan Ekberg declared the day of MLS Cup "Seattle Sounders FC Spirit Day."

Around Seattle, others are also getting in the spirit. The Space Needle will light up rave green on Friday and Saturday, while all Washington State Ferries and the Starbucks headquarters will have flags on Saturday. Additionally, the Pike Place Fish Market's fishmongers will decorate the stall to support the Sounders on Saturday and will wear Sounders gear on the day of the game. That includes Rachel the Piggy Bank, who will be sporting a Sounders scarf.

And that's just a small sample of what Seattle and its businesses will be doing to show their support for the Sounders Saturday
