New England Revolution's Tajon Buchanan named 2020 Canadian Youth International Player of the Year

Tajon Buchanan - 2020 - celebrates playoff goal

New England RevolutionTajon Buchanan has seen his breakout season rewarded by being named the Canadian Men’s Youth International Player of the Year, Canada Soccer announced Tuesday.

The Canadian Youth International Players of the Year Award celebrates Canada’s top two youth male and female players. Buchanan was joined by Canadian U-20 international Jade Rose, who was the runner-up in 2019.

Due to the lack of international competitions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the list of men’s nominees was comprised of Canadian Under-23 players.

Buchanan led all Canadians in MLS appearances with 23 in 2020, appearing in every regular season game for the Revolution while scoring two goals and dishing out two assists in 1,084 minutes. He's also started all three of New England's victories in the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, making a switch to right back from his usual forward spot, and scored one of his team's two goals in the Revs' 2-0 upset of the Philadelphia Union in Round One.
