Center back Luis Binks, who was previously transferred to Bologna FC 1909 back on Aug. 13, will remain with the Montreal Impact on loan through the 2021 season, the club announced Wednesday.

Binks, 19, originally signed with Montreal before the 2020 season after developing in the youth ranks at Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. And while his future seems to be in Serie A, he’ll be playing another season in MLS before heading to Italy’s top flight.

“Despite his young age and his little experience at the professional level, Luis played an excellent first season with us, which got him a transfer to Bologna,” Montreal sporting director Olivier Renard said in a release. “He showed what he can bring to this group and we are happy to know he will keep progressing in our club for another year.”

During his first season with Montreal, Binks has appeared in 21 games (20 starts) and participated in two of their three Concacaf Champions League games. When the league's 22 Under 22 list was revealed, Binks slotted into No. 11 of the league’s top up-and-coming talents.

As Montreal head into an Eastern Conference Play-In Game against the New England Revolution on Nov. 20 (6:30 pm ET | TV & streaming info), Binks appears to be a long-term building block. Alongside outside back Zachary Brault-Guillard, another 22 Under 22 selection, he forms a young defensive core.
