Philadelphia Union Clinch Top Seed in Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs

Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs - generic

NEW YORK
(Sunday, November 8, 2020)
– Following a dramatic close to the regular season, 18 clubs have punched their ticket to the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.  After the FIFA international break, the postseason will begin on Nov. 20 with the Eastern Conference Play-In Round and culminate in MLS Cup on Dec. 12 (8 p.m. ET, FOX, UniMás, TSN, and TVA Sports).
On a historic night for the club, the Philadelphia Union defeated the New England Revolution 2-0 to clinch the top spot in the Eastern Conference, as well as the top spot overall in the MLS standings. With the best points-per-game average this season, Philadelphia will enjoy homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, a berth in the Concacaf Champions League, and the team has been awarded the Supporters’ Shield by their passionate fans. After a perfect home record (9-0-0) at Subaru Park this season, Union head coach Jim Curtin becomes just the fifth person to win the Supporters' Shield as both a player and a coach.
The final night of action was an historic night for a few other clubs as well.
The 2020 expansion clubs Nashville SC (No. 7 seed) and Inter Miami CF (No. 10 seed) both qualified for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs and will face each other during the Play-In Round on Nov. 20 (9 p.m. ET, ESPN/ESPN Deportes, TSN, TVA Sports).
Additionally, with a 3-2 win over D.C. United, first-year head coach Thierry Henry and the Montreal Impact snatched the final postseason spot with a pair of late goals to clinch the No. 10 seed in the East. No. 8 seed New England Revolution, led by veteran manager Bruce Arena, will host No. 9 seed Montreal in the Play-In Round on Nov. 20 (6:30 p.m. ET, FS1/FOX Deportes, TSN, TVA Sports).
