TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade

UPDATE (10/10/20, 4:55 pm ET): D.C. United confirmed Saturday that they've traded veteran midfielder Federico Higuain to expansion side Inter Miami CF for $50,000 in 2021 General Allocation Money (GAM).

The move means he'll reunite with his younger brother Gonzalo, a former Juventus striker who joined Miami this summer on a Designated Player deal.

“Federico has been a great player in this league,” Paul McDonough, Inter Miami COO and sporting director, said in a release. “We were thrilled to add more attacking depth, experience and playmaking ability to our roster when this opportunity presented itself.”

During 10 games (all as a substitute) with D.C., Federico scored two goals. He's been in MLS since 2012 and has 60 goals and 68 assists in 217 appearances. Federico, 35, originally signed with the Black-and-Red as a free agent.

“We want to thank Pipa for his time and commitment to D.C. United,” Dave Kasper, D.C. general manager and VP of soccer operations, said in a team release. "Family is important and Federico personally requested to be reunited with his brother Gonzalo in Miami. We wish him the best of luck in the next chapter of his career.”

ORIGINAL REPORT (10/9/20): The Higuain brothers appear to be reuniting in Miami.

The Washington Post's Steven Goff reported Friday night that D.C. United are set to send Federico Higuain to Inter Miami CF for a small amount of allocation money. The Post reports that Federico requested the trade to join his brother.

The two have never been in the same squad, despite both being on the books at River Plate from 2005-07. Federico was on loan at Nueva Chicago during that time. Since then Federico played for five teams before joining Columbus Crew SC in 2012. He scored 55 goals in 193 games for the Crew before joining D.C. United prior to the 2020 season. He has made 10 substitute appearances with the Black-and-Red this season, scoring two goals.

After a storied career in Europe, Gonzalo signed with Inter Miami last month. He has one goal and one assist in three starts so far.
