Colorado Rapids 1, Sporting Kansas City 1 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

Thanks to two American teenagers, the Colorado Rapids and Sporting Kansas City each took a point home on Saturday night as the two teams drew 1-1 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park

After a first half devoid of many chances, the Rapids struck first in the second half. After a run into the box in the 57th minute, Younes Namli looked to lay off the ball to Diego Rubio. But Rubio let the ball pass by him and Cole Bassett was making a run behind him that allowed the teenager to finish easily past Tim Melia.

Gianluca Busio found his first goal of the season off a corner kick 10 minutes later. The ball was cleared out and the Homegrown had time to set up his shot. He finished near post from outside the box, with Jaylin Lindsey ducking at the last minute, as Rapids 'keeper William Yarbrough could have been a victim of a screen.

Gadi Kinda was shown a second yellow in the 78th minute, but Colorado failed to find a winner up a man.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Sporting will likely be fine with the point after they were a victim of a drubbing earlier this week — though they still sit atop the West — but they may be shorthanded going forward with both Winston Reid and Roger Espinoza leaving the match with injuries. Colorado have not been able to find their form from before the league was suspended, as they are still winless since the restart.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: The Rapids were controlling the match even after their goal, but Busio's strike put an end to that run.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: There wasn't a standout performer, but Busio's goal along with his steady presence in midfield makes him a worthy nod.
