Orlando City SC have loaned forward Santiago Patino to Cimarrones de Sonora of Mexico’s Liga de Expansión MX, the club announced Friday. He'll remain with the club through the end of 2020.

Patino, 23, was the third overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and has scored twice over 13 appearances (three starts) with Orlando in his MLS career.

“We’re excited about this opportunity for Santi to gain additional experience and some competitive minutes with Sonora, which will be an important opportunity for him,” Orlando City EVP of Soccer Ops Luiz Muzzi said in a club statement. “We look forward to seeing his continued development and how he fares in his time in Mexico.”

Earlier on Friday, Orlando City announced the acquisition of Brazilian forward Matheus Aias from Watford. With Patino off to Mexico, and Dom Dwyer injured, Orlando will have Tesho Akindele, Aias and Daryl Dike to choose from as options at center forward.

Orlando made a strong run to the final of the MLS is Back Tournament and resume their season on Saturday against Inter Miami.
