TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Portland Timbers striker Jeremy Ebobisse is generating interest from several European clubs, according to a report from Belgian outlet voetbalkrant.com

The story highlights Belgian Pro League clubs Anderlecht and Royal Antwerp as possible destinations, while Eredivisie side Heerenveen is also named as a suitor. The Belgian clubs began their 2020-21 season in early August, while the Dutch first division gets underway Sept. 12.

Ebobisse is coming off an especially strong MLS is Back Tournament, where he scored four goals and had one assist in seven games as Portland lifted the trophy. That return earned Ebobisse a spot on the MLS is Back Tournament Best XI presented by BODYARMOR. The 23-year-old has also become a vocal leader around the Black Lives Matter movement, persistently discussing the relevant issues across recent months.

For his MLS career, Ebobisse has 17 goals and six assists through 62 games. A 2017 SuperDraft pick for Portland, he faces stiff competition up top alongside Jaroslaw Niezgoda and Felipe Mora. He also has one US men’s national team cap and was named in head coach Jason Kreis’ roster for the 2020 Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship.

Should Anderlecht sign Ebobisse, he’d be their latest MLS addition after ex-New York Red Bulls outside backs Kemar Lawrence and Michael Murillo both signed in the last year. They’re also the home of USMNT midfielder Kenny Saief, who spent part of 2019 on loan with FC Cincinnati.
