TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Agustin Almendra is again linked with a move to MLS, with TUDN’s Nico Cantor reporting that the Boca Juniors midfielder is generating interest from two unnamed clubs.

Cantor outlined that the intrigue stems from those in the New York City and Los Angeles markets, meaning it could be NYCFC or Red Bulls in the former and LAFC and Galaxy in the latter.

Almendra was heavily linked with a loan to Inter Miami CF this past February, though that deal never materialized. It went as far as Argentine sports daily Olé reporting that a team physical was all that stood between Almendra joining the first-year MLS club.

Almendra, 20, is a central midfielder who’s made 33 appearances for Boca’s first team. He’s scored twice and handed out three assists for the storied club, plus has featured for Argentina’s U-17 and U-20 national teams. Almendra made one appearance off the bench at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.

Boca Juniors players continue to be linked to MLS, with midfielder Sebastian Perez highlighted last weekend. Minnesota United also reportedly remain in pursuit of Emanuel “Bebelo” Reynoso, and the Galaxy have star forward Cristian Pavon on loan from Boca. LA head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto was also in charge of Boca when Almendra made his pro debut in 2018.
