Former New York City FC standout Jack Harrison, Leeds United earn promotion to English Premier League

Jack Harrison - celebrates a goal for Leeds United - New York City FC

The news that Leeds United have at long last earned a promotion to the English Premier League is a big development for many, not least among them former New York City FC standout Jack Harrison.

Harrison has been on loan at Leeds from Manchester City since 2018, emerging as a regular contributor with 10 goals across 76 English Championship appearances. So, you can imagine that Harrison was as thrilled as anybody after Leeds' promotion was sealed with West Brom's 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield on Friday.

It's a truly historic moment for Leeds, who have been waiting 16 years for this, Harrison was an important part of the squad that delivered them this moment.

The 23-year-old winger got his start as a professional in MLS with NYCFC after he was traded to the Cityzens by Chicago Fire FC, who took him as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. He went on to score 14 MLS goals in 56 appearances before he was signed by partner club Manchester City, doing a brief four-match stint on loan at Middlesborough before signing a season-long loan with Leeds in 2018 and again in 2019. It will be interesting to see what happens with Harrison next, as Leeds have an option to sign him on a permanent transfer at the conclusion of the season.
