Alan Franco - Independiente - challenge for ball

Over three months after being initially linked with a multi-million dollar move to the LA Galaxy, another report connects Independiente center back Alan Franco to the MLS side.

The latest reports come from Argentine outlet TyC Sports, who claim that LA lead the way for Franco’s services. TyC outlines that a potential move would help Independiente's financial situation, a concern that many clubs globally have to contend with during the COVID-19 pandemic.

From a positional standpoint, the report certainly makes sense for the Galaxy. Their primary center-back options are Nick DePuy, Daniel Steres and Giancarlo Gonzalez, with only the latter two proven in MLS. Defense was also an issue for the club in 2019 when they allowed 59 goals, the most of any Western Conference playoff team.

Franco, 23, could remedy those concerns, given that he’s been a first-team regular at Independiente since 2017. He’s made 105 appearances for the club, and also made his Argentine national team debut during a 2018 friendly against Guatemala. Franco’s trophy cabinet includes the 2017 Copa Sudamericana, which he won alongside Atlanta United midfielder Ezequiel Barco.
