Inter Miami owner David Beckham is in the early stage of discussions with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to acquire Colombian attacker James Rodriguez, according to a report from Ruben Uria of Goal.com.

Miami have not yet made an offer to Beckham's former club for the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner, but Madrid are open to selling this summer, according to the report. The 28-year-old Rodriguez has a year remaining on his contract, and has also been connected to other European destinations.

Rodriguez spent two years on loan at Bayern Munich from 2017-2019, and did not feature regularly upon returning to Madrid. If he's not sold, he could leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.

Rodriguez is far from the first global star to be connected to Miami and Beckham's name in particular. Just before their inaugural season opener, Beckham even publicly spoke about rumors his team could eventually go after even bigger stars than Rodriguez, like Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.
