Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to Inter Miami? David Beckham responds to rumors on The Tonight Show

Still a regular fixture on the Hollywood circuit, David Beckham dropped into The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, where he discussed his new life as an MLS owner as anticipation builds toward Inter Miami CF's debut on Sunday.

That included questions about rumors connecting his Inter Miami CF to global soccer icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who have both been linked with one day following the path Beckham took when he joined the LA Galaxy in 2007.

For his part, Beckham didn't rule anything out.

"We’ve got great opportunities down in Miami," he said. "We’ve been contacted by a lot of different players with possibly coming to join the team. As any owner, you really want the best players, and if you have the opportunity to bring in players like Cristiano or Leo Messi —I’ve got such admiration for both of them as athletes â€” if we could bring those players in, then great. But at the moment, we have a great roster of players, young players, a couple of experienced players as well, but a lot of young players that are just ready to play."

Beckham also noted how his experience playing under manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United might have shaped his approach to roster building.

"One of the things that I always learned from Sir Alex Ferguson ... he said: 'Whoever you bring in, they have to be the right fit for the club. It’s not about bringing the biggest name or the biggest personality or the biggest player, it’s all about the player that will fit in best with the players.' And that’s what we’ll do. But like I said, as an owner, if you want to bring these players in, then we have a great opportunity."

Beckham will begin life as an MLS owner on Sunday by returning to Los Angeles when Inter Miami travel to 2019 Supporters' Shield winners LAFC (5:30 pm ET | ESPN, ESPN Deportes, WatchESPN in the U.S., MLS LIVE on DAZN in Canada).
