MLS Preseason 2020: FC Cincinnati top Philadelphia Union 1-0 in closed-door game

Ron Jans - FC Cincinnati - preseason

FC Cincinnati and the Philadelphia Union continued their preseason preparations behind closed doors in Florida on Wednesday, with FCC emerging 1-0 winners.

Though the closed-door nature of the match meant that a good deal of information on both teams was not publicly available, Philadelphia shared their starting XI — looking close to a full-strength unit to start the game — while Cincinnati head coach Ron Jans (pictured above) talked before the game about some of his lineup choices.

The Dutch head coach noted that he would swap his outfield players at halftime, similar to what he did in previous outings against Phoenix Rising FC and Sporting Kansas City, and that only the goalkeeper would play the full 90 minutes. Per the club's website, defenders Andrew Gutman and Tom Pettersson missed out with injuries, with Gutman likely to return to action in the coming weekend and Pettersson possibly following suit next week.

Both teams will continue their preseason preparations against expansion teams this weekend, with the Union taking on Inter Miami on Saturday before Cincinnati take on Nashville on Sunday, with both games taking place at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
