Atlanta United have transferred defender Leandro Gonzalez Pirez to Liga MX's Club Tijuana for an undisclosed fee, the club announced Friday. Gonzalez Pirez was on the club's inaugural expansion roster.

Gonzalez Pirez, 27, joined Atlanta in 2017 and has been an integral piece of the club's backline since his debut, making 95 regular-season starts and a further nine playoff appearances across three seasons. He won an MLS Cup (2018), US Open Cup (2019) and Campeones Cup (2019) during his three seasons with the club.

“We appreciate what Leandro has contributed to the club over the last three years and we wish him the best of luck in his future,” Atlanta VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a club statement.

The move leaves Atlanta United thin in central defense with preseason opening this weekend. They have just six defenders, four of which natural fullbacks. Miles Robinson and George Campbell are the club's two lone center backs, though Franco Escobar and Anton Walkes can feature through the center in three center back systems.
