Chris Mavinga has signed a new deal with 2019 MLS Cup finalist Toronto FC, the club announced on Thursday. Specific terms and length were not disclosed, per team policy.

The French center back, 28, joined TFC in 2017 from Russian side Rubin Kazan and previously signed a contract extension in 2018.

ā€œChris is a player that has played a significant role in the success of the club over the past three years,ā€ said Toronto FC general manager Ali Curtis in a statement. ā€œHe has excellent tools for the position - left footed, excellent speed, and loves competing in the biggest games. We are excited that Chris chose to extend his contract, and that he will be with the organization moving forward.ā€

Mavinga has appeared in 64 regular-season matches for Toronto over the last three seasons, plus has chipped in three assists. He enjoyed a critical role on their treble-winning side in 2017, as the Reds brought home MLS Cup, Supportersā€™ Shield and Canadian Championship titles.

Mavinga has also appeared in four postseason games, and gives Toronto a veteran-heavy center back corps that also includes Laurent Ciman, US men's national team veteran Omar Gonzalez and Eriq Zavaleta.

Toronto begin their season Feb. 29 at the San Jose Earthquakes and will be entering their seventh season under head coach Greg Vanney.
