One of the oldest rivalries in MLS has a new twist Sunday with the New York Red Bulls hosting D.C. United with a possible home playoff game on the line for the winner at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls (14-13-5) are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference, one point behind D.C. United after defeating the Philadelphia Union, 2-0, last Sunday. Tom Barlow opened the scoring in the 32nd minute and Danny Royer tacked on a stoppage-time insurance goal as the Red Bulls earned a second straight clean sheet victory.

A few hours after the Red Bulls temporarily moved up to fourth place in the East, D.C. United (13-10-9) retook their spot following a 2-0 win of their own over the Seattle Sounders. Lucas Rodriguez and Frederic Brillant scored a goal in each half as the Black-and-Red stretched a scoreless streak to 324 minutes.

The teams met August 21 at Audi Field with the Red Bulls claiming a 2-1 win as Kaku opened the scoring in the 6th minute. After Wayne Rooney was sent off on a straight red card following Video Review, Ola Kamara leveled for D.C. United in the 55th minute. Four minutes later, Royer scored the winner from the penalty spot after another Video Review.
