Report: Sporting Kansas City in talks for Portuguese left back Luis Martins

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report

A combination of several players expected to return from injury and a lack of wiggle room under the salary cap means Sporting Kansas City may have to be selective about how they spend money over the next two transfer windows, writes Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star.

However, McDowell continues, the club is at least actively in discussions with one potential midseason addition in Portuguese left back Luis Martins.

At age 27, Martins has played his entire professional career on the Iberian peninsula, primarily in the first division in Portugal but also in the first and second divisions in Spain.

Chaves, his most recent club, were relegated from Portugal's Primeira Liga following a 16th-place finish in the 2018-19 season, in which he played in 15 matches, making 12 starts.

Seth Sinovic has been a consistent fixture for SKC at left back since 2011, and Jimmy Medranda has typically been the backup in that position for coach Peter Vermes.
