After defeating Louisville City in the fourth round, FC Cincinnati will get reacquainted with another former USL foe when they meet host Saint Louis FC in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.

The winner of this first USOC meeting hits the road to face either Atlanta United or Columbus Crew SC in the quarterfinals July 10.

Saint Louis FC

Saint Louis FC pulled off the first upset of the fourth round, defeating the Chicago Fire, 2-1, last Tuesday at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium.

Austin Martz latched onto a Russell Cicerone from the left wing to put the hosts in front on 17 minutes. Just four minutes later, Guy Abend snuck free for a wide-open header from Lewis Hilton's delivery to double Saint Louis FC's lead. The Fire cut their deficit in half on a penalty kick by Nemanja Nikolic. In their fifth season, the win was the first over an MLS team in three tries for Saint Louis FC, who had previously lost to Sporting Kansas City (2015) and the Fire (2017).

FC Cincinnati

No stranger to deep USOC runs, or playing Louisville City, FC Cincinnati felt right at home with a 2-1 fourth round win at Nippert Stadium last Wednesday.

After Fanendo Adi capitalized on a defensive gaffe to put the hosts in front in the 23rd minute, Lucky Mkosana leveled for the visitors seven minutes later. The score remained tied after 90 minutes, but Kekuta Manneh broke the stalemate in the 103rd minute with a powerful header in the resumption of the "Dirty River Derby."
