Miles Robinson basks in being named to Berhalter's provisional US roster

For Miles Robinson, it was always probably a matter of when, not if the first US men's national team call comes.

Even so, it was a momentous day in the 22-year-old Atlanta United center back's career to read his name among the 40 listed on coach Gregg Berhalter's provisional Gold Cup roster, which was released on Monday.

"To be invited, or just in that roster of players is pretty sweet," Robinson told reporters. "With all the great names on the list it’s pretty humbling. "

Robinson has appeared in all 12 of Atlanta's matches this season, starting 11 for a club that put together the longest scoreless streak so far this season and one of the longest overall in MLS history.

If he makes Berhalter's final squad and parlays that into an impressive Gold Cup showing, he could become yet another Atlanta player connected with interest from across the globe. That's not what's on his mind, though.

"I’m just playing here, never really thinking about anything like that," he said. "I’m just focusing on what I can do here to help us win."
