The winger hadn’t recorded a league goal since a July 11, 2018 win over the Fire and it was his first multi-goal game since June 24, 2017 against Orlando City SC.
The first goal in the 31st minute, as the Ghanaian was played through by Fafa Picault and slotted inside the far post. Then after some wayward Crew defending, Accam toe-poked home past Bendik in the 41st minute, giving his side a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. For good measure, he also added an assist, helping set up Ilsinho's strike in the 48th minute.
Accam’s celebration after his first strike was filled with emotion, almost as if a weight was lifted off his shoulders. After the match, it was revealed that Accam's father recently passed away.
David Accam says it's a "really emotional game" for him, as he lost his Father last week. Our condolences to David and his family. Love to see him staying positive and playing well. Thank you, David.— Brotherly Game (@BrotherlyGame) March 24, 2019
Accam, one of the more-exciting attacking players in MLS while with Chicago, had 33 goals and 15 assists during his three seasons with the Fire.
