Inter Miami announced on Friday that former Real Salt Lake star Javier Morales has been added to the 2020 MLS expansion side’s academy coaching staff.

“We are thrilled to welcome Javier to our club,” said sporting director Paul McDonough in a club release. “He has played at the highest level, both in MLS and internationally, and his experience will be invaluable for our academy players as we build our foundation and begin play later this year. We are excited to work with him in the next phase of his career as a coach.”

Morales arrives in Miami from FC Dallas, where he worked as the Under-13 academy coach for one season, guiding the team to an international championship at the Copa Rayados Internacional tournament in Mexico.

One of the top playmakers in MLS history, Morales spent 10 seasons with RSL from 2007-16, helping the Utah side win the 2009 MLS Cup and reach the championship finals of the 2011 Concacaf Champions League, 2013 MLS Cup and 2013 U.S. Open Cup. In Miami he will be reunited with his former RSL coach, Jason Kreis, who joined Inter’s technical staff earlier this year.

He spent his final season at FCD, becoming a member of the elite “50-50 club” of MLS players with 50 goals and 50 assists, only the 17th player in league history to accomplish the feat. He finished his career with 50 goals and 83 assists in 255 MLS appearances.

Morales began his career in his native Argentina, featuring for Lanus, Arsenal de Sarandi, Newell's Old Boys and Instituto de Cordoba.
